Cambodia Casinos
There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den gaming is not legal. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of many borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling hall, features 150 slots and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel building that highlights many comforts in addition to the gambling den, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
