Cambodia Casinos
There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which casino gaming is banned. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent area, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; still, financing sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and despite the fact visas are allegedly needed to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is real of most border crossings.
The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel compound that contains numerous comforts accompanying the gambling hall, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
